Recent snow improves conditions Madison Valley, Snowpack remains below the 30-year median

Recent snowstorms in the Madison Valley brought area snowpack levels to 83% of the 30-year median level. The new moisture means the water situation is trending in the right direction, although additional above-normal snow fall this spring is needed to catch up to the 30-year median snow water equivalent numbers.

Approximately 58% of NorthWestern’s owned and contracted energy supply is carbon-free, markedly better than the national average of 40% in 2022 (eia.gov table 7.2b). Since 2011, NorthWestern has added 954 megawatts of owned and long-term contracted energy resources to its Montana generation portfolio, all of which are carbon free (wind, hydro or solar).
When the wind isn’t blowing, or the sun isn’t shining, NorthWestern must have energy generation options to provide power to customers.
NorthWestern Energy raises scam awareness during National Consumer Protection Week

This week, NorthWestern Energy is joining Utilities United Against Scams (UUAS) in supporting the Federal Trade Commission’s (FTC’s) annual National Consumer Protection Week, along with more than 100 federal, state, and local agencies; consumer groups; and national advocacy organizations.
As a member of UUAS, NorthWestern Energy is working with partners, including the FTC, to inform customers about scams and to support initiatives to combat scammers.
NorthWestern Energy and employees provided $1.47 million in 2023 to support their communities

NorthWestern Energy will bypass customers who do not want new electric and natural gas meters

Customers who want to keep their existing meters can call NorthWestern at 888-467-2669 or email NorthWesternEnergyMeters@northwestern.com to be added to the bypass list. Customers who previously requested an opt out do not need to contact NorthWestern again to be bypassed and keep their meters.
NorthWestern Energy’s Montana system meets record energy demand during extreme January weather

Energy demand was record high during the Arctic blast that blanketed Montana beginning late last week and continued through the long holiday weekend.
The electric-peak load on the grid that serves NorthWestern Energy’s Montana customers and many other Montana energy service providers exceeded the record set during the December 2022 Montana Arctic blast. In addition, NorthWestern Energy’s Montana natural gas system supplied a record quantity of natural gas to keep our customers warm.

NorthWestern Energy crews assisting Avista to restore natural gas service for 37,000 customers in Idaho and Washington

Twenty-two NorthWestern Energy natural gas crew members are assisting Avista crews in north central Idaho and eastern Washington to restore natural gas service to 37,000 Avista customers.
On Nov. 8 a third party damaged a gas pipeline owned by Williams Pipeline that transports natural gas to Avista’s system.
Avista requested resources from area energy companies to assist with the work to restore natural gas services, a process involving many steps over multiple days.
NorthWestern Energy completes two-year $7.8 million Chamberlain switchyard, providing redundancy and increased reliability

NorthWestern Energy’s joint $7.8 million Chamberlain switchyard project is being completed this month.
NorthWestern Energy is working jointly with East River Electric, an electric cooperative based in Madison, South Dakota. The new switchyard will provide redundancy and increase reliability on the transmission system that serves customers in the area.
