NorthWestern Energy to Upgrade Natural Gas Pipeline on 5th Street in Great Falls

Date: Apr 7, 2026

TYPE: News

Great Falls, Mont. – April 7, 2026 – NorthWestern Energy will begin replacing a natural gas pipeline installed in 1949 along 5th Street in Great Falls, Mont. from 2nd Avenue North to 2nd Avenue South. Construction is scheduled to begin April 8 and is part of ongoing efforts to improve the safety and reliability of natural gas service in the area. The project is expected to be completed about June 8.

The project also includes replacement of a natural gas main pipeline located in the alley along the project route.

For the safety of work crews and the public, traffic will be detoured away from the work area during construction. Drivers and pedestrians are asked to watch for posted signs and barricades.

Customers who will experience brief, temporary interruptions of natural gas service will be notified directly by NorthWestern Energy.

“We appreciate the patience and cooperation of our customers and the community as we complete this important infrastructure improvement,” said NorthWestern Energy Community Relations Manager Shane Etzwiler “This investment will help ensure reliable natural gas service for years to come.”

NorthWestern Energy will work to minimize disruptions and complete the project as efficiently as possible. Schedules may change depending on weather or other conditions.
