Missoula Beckwith Avenue tree project begins in mid-April

Mar 26, 2019

Missoula, Mont. - NorthWestern Energy crews will be working along Beckwith Avenue in Missoula in mid-April to remove a dozen mature Norway maple trees directly under power lines.

For years these trees, along with others, have been trimmed to prevent them from growing into the lines roughly 40 feet above the boulevard. However, in order to gain the appropriate clearance these trees must now be removed, otherwise there will be minimal structure left of the tree and several pose an unacceptable level of risk.

The trees are on the boulevard in the city of Missoula right-of-way. NorthWestern Energy has worked closely with the city of Missoula qualified tree risk assessor to identify the trees that will be removed.

NorthWestern Energy will clean up the removed trees and debris, which will be composted.

The area will be re-planted with trees that are smaller in stature and will not require future line-clearance pruning.
