Customers can save on their heating bill by installing a programmable thermostat that adjusts to their household’s schedule and lifestyle. The thermostat automatically sets your home's temperature, allowing you to save energy when you are asleep or away.
NorthWestern Energy residential customers who heat their homes or hot water with natural gas or electricity and who purchase a programmable thermostat from a local retailer and install it in their home may be eligible for a $30 rebate.
Note: Your old thermostat may contain mercury. Because mercury is toxic and can leak out of the thermostat to contaminate our air, water and soil, it should not be disposed of in the trash or local landfill. To assist homeowners with proper disposal of their mercury-containing thermostats, a no-cost collection/recycling program is available to all Montana residents through support from NorthWestern Energy's safety department and with coordination of the Montana Department of Environmental Quality. Click here to find out how you can take advantage of this program.
Eligibility: NorthWestern Energy residential natural gas or electric space-heating customers who live in an existing home are eligible for the thermostat rebate. Customers building a new home are not eligible for this program.
How to Apply for the Rebate: Click here to download the application form. The rebate is limited to a maximum of two units per household and will not be greater than the actual cost of the item.
