Celebrating our first century. Building for our second.
This year, NorthWestern Energy celebrates a remarkable milestone as the utility
commemorates its first century of service.
In the late 1880s, about 40 small power companies serving sundry small Montana towns gradually joined together to form four regional electric utilities: Butte Electric & Power Co., Madison River Power Co., Billings Eastern Montana Power Co., and Missouri River Electric & Power Co. In mid-December 1912, these four power companies were consolidated into what became The Montana Power Company. NorthWestern Public Service was formed in a similar manner in 1923, although its roots in Huron date back to 1909. In recognition of our retirees' and employees' unwavering commitment to providing customers safe, reliable electricity and natural gas service across Montana, South Dakota and Nebraska – the entire company will proudly be celebrating its tradition of service.
By honoring our collective past, we look confidently to the future. We've been delivering a bright future for generations and will continue to for generations yet to come.
