– April 13, 2010 – NorthWestern Energy is warning customers and others of a check-cashing scam using the company’s name.
Several recipients in other states have reported receiving a check from NorthWestern Energy, LLC in the amount of $2,650 delivered via FedEx with a letter indicating that they have been chosen to participate in a survey. The letter directs them to deposit the funds in their account and immediately wire a portion of the money to a pre-determined “relative.” Recipients are then instructed to provide a host of details to the company called “Marketing Alts. Inc.”
Anyone who receives these checks should not deposit them. Please report them to your state’s fraud investigation unit or the other appropriate law enforcement agency in your area.
NorthWestern Energy appreciates the calls from recipients who have brought this to our attention. We encourage anyone who receives any suspicious correspondence to call us immediately with questions or concerns.
